On November 10, 2006, Cat Lai Port (CLP) of Saigon Newport Company (SNP) hit the annual throughput objective for 2006 fifty days prior to plan. At the growth rate of 38%, SNP is bound to reach 1.4M teu by the end of 2006, accounting for 64% container throughput in the market of Ho Chi Minh City and 40% nationally.

In an attempt to make use of the most innovative information technology in terminal operations and management, Saigon Newport Company had recently established the IT Department under the management of the Directors’ Board on October 2, 2006. Orginially IT section of Operation Center, IT Department was founded in accordance with the plan of IT investment by the Director’s Board to suit the need of utilizing hi-tech in port operations and management.

Despite of a prolonged holiday of this year’s Lunar New Year (Feb. 15 – Feb 22, 2007) business transactions at Cat Lai Port were still at a high level. In February 2007, Cat Lai Port received 145 ship calls resulting in an equivalence of 123,243 TEUs in throughput. On average the Port handled 4,402 TEUs a day at PPS of more than 32 moves/hr.

In an attempt to boost vessel release productivity, apart from constant efforts to invest on modernizing equipment and facilities, upgrading Management Information System (MIS) and expanding container yard, Saigon Newport Company (SNP) has carried out extensive renovations to operations and management under the advanced scheme of ‘terminal’.

More than 300 representatives and guests in cluding 108 official delegates, 82 unofficial delegates, 32 guests from People’s Committee, relating Departments of BaRia-Vung Tau province, 64 representatives from sponsoring companies and Public Media attended the Conference
